League Update May ’11

May 7, 2011

After a run of 6 away games in March/April (of which we lost 4) we dropped to 5th in the league.  We regrouped and won the last 2 games 4-2 v Hale End and 3-1 v Hornminster to secure 3rd spot.  Not bad in our first full season in the league we think and a credit to the efforts of the players.

Season end event and awards giving to take place June 18th 2011.

Greene King Essex Vets League Update 1/10/10

October 2, 2010

So far so good. Disappointing 1st game v Westhamians losing 1-3 with Joe Caplin scoring. But then a 3-2 win away at Fulbrook Royals (Dean Cooper 2, Stuart Atkinson) followed by a 5-1 win at West Essex Vets (Dean Cooper 4, Ken Trayling), leaves us only 1 point off the top of the league with a game in hand. Come on the Blues!

Thanks to the following players who have appeared so far: Anban Naidoo, Kumers Naidoo, Nigel Terry, Kevin Barry, Gary West (C), Conal Gridley, Joe Caplin, Stuart Atkinson, Mike Dotson, Kevin Patey, Michael Saunders, Paul Tupper, Andy Richardson, Andy Tunnicliffe, Dean Cooper, Joe Feerick, Ken Trayling, Mike Groarke, David Bell, Adam Holly.

2009 / 2010 Season end awards

July 4, 2010

Thanks and congratulations to all who participated this season.  A fine season that saw us finish runners up in the Essex Veterans League and only knocked out of the Essex Veterans cup by the eventual winners.  We played 25 games, won 14, drew 4 and lost 7.  We scored 87 goals and conceded 64 in the process.  Awards were as follows:

Player of the year: Kevin Barry

Top Goalscorer: Dave Bell, 36 goals

Clubman of the year: Nigel Terry

In recognition of Dave Bells fine goalscoring record over the last 2 seasons (63 goals in all) we presented him with the #9 shirt, to which we had added his favoured nickname, ‘The Gardener’.

North Essex Vets League Update March 2010

March 21, 2010

Well played to the team on 2 back to back victories in the NEVL League.  The first a 7-3 victory over Lawford Lads with goals coming from Dave Bell (2), Joe Feerick (2), Kevin Barry, Stuart Atkinson and Paul Tupper.  The second a 4-2 win in a double header against Wivenhoe with goals from Joe Feerick (2), Joe Caplin and Andy Richardson.  The latter game also saw the first dog attack of the season, when Joe Feerick was bitten by a West Highland / Yorkshire Terrier cross.
